Worcester Cultural Academy is seeking a talented Reading Specialist to provide literacy support to students between the grades of Kindergarten through 5th grade. Successful candidates will possess experience working in diverse schools with English Language Learners and students with disabilities and a passion for pioneering collaborative curriculum development set at a living history museum. Completion of a Massachusetts Reading Program All Levels approved program. Possession of a Massachusetts Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher Endorsement.
Bachelors degree in education or related field required, Masters degree required. At least five years of teaching experience Certification with a multi-sensory reading approach such as Orton-Gillingham, or Wilson Reading preferred. Experience facilitating small-group literacy interventions. Experience using a multi-sensory intervention program in language based classrooms.
Experience in elementary school setting preferred.Responsibilities Work directly with students, either individually or in a small group. Work with classroom teachers to develop strategies to aid in improved literacy for all students. Assess students in their classroom and develop appropriate interventions. Collaborate with both general educators and special educators to discuss concerns.
Perform other duties as determined by the Principal. Demonstrate a collaborative spirit of We are crew, not passengers from EL Education Prepare students for Student-Led Conference through the creation of Portfolios Attend and facilitate Student-Led Conferences (~2 per year)Join Our Adult CrewAt Worcester Cultural Academy, our faculty and staff collaborate and support one another and our students through a number of school-wide activities, events and celebrations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and participate in these events, ranging from student and family orientation activities to celebrations of learning to graduation.
