JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW: The Medical Assistant III – Psychiatry ensures optimum patient care through the efficient rooming of patients, in-person and virtual, exhibiting good communication with patients and other staff, performing medical procedures, providing patient education, follow-up care instructions, and completing daily documentation. | |||

MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS/TRAINING (state required or preferred)
| High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Satisfactory completion of an accredited medical assistant program in California; CA Medical Assistant certification required. Venipuncture and injection certifications and or competency preferred. Phlebotomy Certificate required for some locations |
| Experience working with diverse populations displaying respect and sensitivity to diversity, equity and inclusion preferred Minimum Four years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinic environment required. Supervisory Back up; prior lead or supervisory experience preferred. Prior experience in Community Health Centers/FQHC preferred Must certify and remain current in CPR Strong verbal and written communication skills; Bilingual (English/Spanish) language required Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required Computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite, strong data entry skills; electronic health record system required. Experience working with complex patient situations preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. | Responsible for greeting patients into exam room/ office areas and driving a positive patient customer service experience |
2. | Rooms patients, obtains and documents vital signs including height, weight, BMI, temperature, respirations and blood pressure. |
3. | Collects and documents patient history and current state of health |
4. | Disinfects and prepares treatment rooms, equipment and supplies in a timely manner to ensure optimum flow |
5. | Provides patient education and follow-up care instructions |
6. | Coordinates Urine Toxicology as indicated by psychiatric provider |
7. | Ensures medication use agreement is completed and renewed annually for medications identified by psychiatric provider |
8. | Reviews schedules and ensures visit types are correct and follow-up appointments are scheduled correctly |
9. | Follows up with patient after labs are ordered to ensure patient has completed labs and problem solves barriers to completing labs when appropriate |
10. | Triages patient concerns, gathers information, and communicates to psychiatric provider or primary care team. |
11. | Connects with patient on Zoom/Doximity prior to their first video appt for patients who are not comfortable navigating a video appointment |
12. | Sends behavioral health screens (PHQ9, GAD7) to patients with a virtual appointment. |
13. | Collaborates with Behavioral Health Program Navigators to ensure schedules are full and works to cover for BH Program navigators when needed. |
14. | Works closely with providers to provide high quality care to each patient by addressing their health needs and concerns |
15. | Proactively ensure that Provider/MA “huddles” take place on time in preparation for each shift |
16. | Performs routine screening procedures, such as hearing and vision test and document findings |
17. | Performs various medical assistant procedures, including but not limited to: coordinating EKG, finger sticks for hemoglobin checks; ear washes; nebulizer treatments; urine dipsticks; specimen collection for throat and/or urine cultures; wound cleaning; PPD placement; INR; glucose; HCG; and Hemoglobin A1C (some procedures may not be applicable to all sites) |
18. | Administers immunizations and documents in electronic health record |
19. | Ensures that all logs, forms, records and charts are complete, thorough and accurate |
20. | Practices standard safety precautions to ensure safety to self, other staff and patients, including handling of contained waste and sharps, and cleaning and disinfecting medical equipment after use |
21. | Communicates clearly with providers, other staff and patients to promote optimum clinic flow and proper patient hand off; communicates with IBH Operations Manager on urgent issues |
22. | Proactively helps teammates during down time |
23. | Recommends improvement in processes and practices through the proper channels |
24. | Provides patient education as directed by the clinician |
25. | In Yolo county, coordinates with pharmacy ensuring LAIs are delivered on time for RN or provider appointments and administers LAI injections. |
26. | Performs other duties as assigned. |
