What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant- Olentangy Schools position at Olentangy Local School District?
There will be an Accountant position(s) available within the Olentangy Local School District for the 2024-25 school year; the anticipated effective date of employment will be May 1, 2025. The anticipated salary range will be up to $90,000, with actual salary placement commensurate with experience and successful demonstration of desired qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The district also offers a very competitive fringe benefits package, including: employer-paid SERS retirement with employer-contribution as additional fringe (“pick-up on the pick-up"); employer-paid Medicare (“Medicare pick-up”); 12 paid holidays; 25 vacation days; 3 personal leave days; competitive health, dental, vision, and district-paid life insurance.
The accountant will assist the Treasury Department in the financial operations of the school district; assist in maintaining accounting data to permit the conversion of cash basis records to financial reports conforming to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; and oversee efficient operation of payroll, conduct internal audits of various cash collection points, perform bank reconciliations, cost studies, and any other procedures assigned by the Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer or his/her designee.
Qualifications should include: an associate or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, from an accredited college/university in accounting, business management, finance, or related field; three or more years of formal training/experience in accounting and fiscal procedures; demonstrated computer proficiency including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software; and preferred experience in governmental accounting. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the treasurer and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
The successful candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities: ability to work effectively with others; ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing; effective, active listening skills; organizational and problem solving skills; knowledge of general accounting principles and financial statements; ability to research, comprehend, and interpret applicable laws; records management skills; experience in payroll and accounts payable procedures; knowledge of State software accounting packages; and knowledge of Ohio School Funding and school legal requirements; understanding and patient with staff, parents, and students.
