Bakery/Deli Department Supervisor
The Department Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all departments and department heads across multiple store locations, ensuring efficient management and operational efficiency. Responsibilities include assisting with product development, sourcing, costing, and collaborating with vendors and merchandisers. The role also involves managing the catering program, setting pricing strategies, merchandising, and operational challenges, recruiting and training department heads and reviewing sales performance. Additionally, the supervisor ensures compliance with FDA regulations, enforces food safety protocols, and maintains ServSafe certification. The Department Supervisor reports to and works closely with the Department Director.
Department Manager Tasks:
- Supervise all departments and department heads across multiple store locations.
- Assist in the search, development, and costing of new product offerings. *
- Collaborate with merchandisers and vendors to help design promotions, introduce new products and season offerings, and stay informed on industry trends. *
- Organize and manage the catering program, including party trays, custom cakes and large customer orders. *
- Develop pricing strategies to maintain optimal profit margins while ensuring market competitiveness. *
- Provide guidance and support to department heads on maintenance, pricing, merchandising and managerial challenges as needed. Provide additional training for new employees as required.
- Ensure accurate customer data management in scales for proper pricing and labeling, in compliance with FDA and Department of Agriculture regulations.
- Monitor and enforce adherence to food safety protocols, maintain ServSafe certification, and ensure department heads retain their certifications.
- Lead the recruitment and training of new department heads to ensure alignment with company standards. *
- Review departmental sales performance, set goals, identify opportunities for growth, and conduct performance reviews with department heads. *

Qualifications:
Requirements:
- Experience in retail management, food service, or multi-department supervision, preferably in grocery, deli, bakery, or food-service/catering operations. Experience in managing multiple store locations is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and maintain strong relationships with vendors and merchandisers. Must be proficient in Microsoft Applications.
- Proven ability to supervise, manage, and develop teams, including leading recruitment, training, and development efforts to align with company standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing market conditions, customer needs, and business priorities.
- A customer-centric mindset, with a commitment to ensuring outstanding customer service and satisfaction across all departments.
- Travel Requirement: Travel to all four store locations, with a maximum drive time of 2 hours in one direction, to supervise departments. 1-time monthly minimum for Northern store locations.
Preferred:
- Ability to oversee the operational efficiency of multiple departments, ensuring inventory management, pricing strategies, profit margins, and maintenance processes run smoothly and effectively. Basic business math is necessary for these operations.
- Experience in developing and sourcing new products, and pricing products to maintain competitiveness while optimizing profit margins.
- Understanding of FDA and Department of Agriculture regulations, with a focus on compliance and accurate labeling. ServSafe certification and experience in enforcing food safety and sanitation protocols.
- Experience in recruiting, training, and onboarding department heads and staff to ensure alignment with company standards. Ability to provide ongoing training and support to enhance team performance and address managerial challenges.
