This position requires deep expertise in life insurance and annuities accounting, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical accounting guidance for complex transactions, including reinsurance, derivatives, and policyholder reserves.
- Monitor and implement new accounting standards (e.g., LDTI, IFRS 17) and assess their impact on financial reporting.
- Support financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP, STAT, and SEC regulations.
- Collaborate with actuarial, finance, and investment teams to ensure accurate financial representation of insurance and investment products.
- Assist in the preparation of white papers and accounting memos for internal and external stakeholders.
- Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and senior management to address accounting and reporting inquiries.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
- 5 years of experience in technical accounting, with a focus on life insurance and annuities.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, STAT, and regulatory frameworks (SEC, NAIC, FASB).
- Prior experience in public accounting (Big 4 or large regional firm) or within a life insurance carrier preferred.
- Familiarity with LDTI, IFRS 17, and other evolving accounting standards.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
