Social Media Manager

About The Role
The University of Olivet is seeking a creative, energetic, and self-motivated Social Media Manager to bring our campus story to life through compelling photography, video, and written content. This on-campus position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, connects authentically with college students and faculty, and knows how to turn everyday moments into engaging digital content.
As our Social Media Manager, you’ll be the voice behind our social platforms — showcasing the spirit, people, and purpose that make The University of Olivet unique.
Key Responsibilities
• Capture and create original photo and video content that reflects campus life, academics, events, and student success stories
• Write engaging captions, stories, and posts tailored to each platform (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and departments to highlight events, programs, and key initiatives
- Assist with research, writing and proofreading a variety of communications materials for various platforms and channels.
• Plan and maintain a consistent content calendar
• Monitor engagement and trends to optimize content performance
• Represent the university at on-campus and regional events, including occasional travel within Michigan, with approval of leadership.
• Stay current on social media trends and emerging platforms
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in multimedia, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field. Associate degree plus five years of related experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, however, a bachelor’s degree must be achieved within two and one-half years of hire date.
- Proven experience in social media content creation — especially photography, video, and short-form storytelling
- Intermediate understanding and demonstrated experience of photography and videography.
- Experience using social posting/listening platforms such as Hootsuite.
• Strong writing and editing skills with a clear, engaging voice; experience writing according to AP Style.
• Outgoing and approachable personality — able to connect with students and staff comfortably
• Self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple projects
• Familiarity with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar content editing platforms
- Experience managing a digital asset management platform, including organizing and tagging assets.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Google platforms, project management and digital asset management platforms.
• Flexible schedule to cover events during evenings or weekends when needed
