What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cashier, Part-Time position at Olivet Nazarene University?
POSITION SUMMARY
The Cashier handles all types of transactions that occur at the cashier window. This includes receipting payments made on student accounts as well as deposits from other departments across campus. The Cashier is also responsible for providing cash refunds, distributing checks, and preparing deposits made to the bank.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide excellent customer service to all Olivet students and families, faculty, staff, or anyone else who comes to the cashier window for assistance.
2. At a high level, understand and explain a student’s current account balance (charges, financial aid, payment plans, etc.) through Colleague and/or self-service when students or families call or come to the window with questions. Refer students and families to a Student Finance Coordinator for more in-depth questions.
3. Process student account payments and receipt checks: This would include payments made directly to a student’s account as well as loan checks and various financial aid scholarships.
4. Deposit income from other departments to the correct account. This includes, but is not limited to, mission trips, rent payments, etc.
5. Payroll: The Cashier is responsible for distributing certain payroll checks, primarily to students.
6. Check cashing: The Cashier is responsible to maintain the cash drawer to make sure that the office has the funds to cash checks for students.
7. Balancing: The Cashier will assist the Senior Cashier as needed with balancing each day. The bank deposit is done at this time and accounts are updated to the general ledger each evening.
8. Demonstrate the ability to practice confidentiality with sensitive information.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job will not be a supervisor of staff, faculty, students, or volunteers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

2. Effective Communication Skills, both written and verbal. This role requires effective communication with students as well as other departments across campus. The Cashier must represent, both in attitude, speech, and appearance the ideals of Christian communication, exercising courtesy, patience, and consistency.
3. Ability to prioritize tasks and problem solve.
4. Ability to perform basic mathematics functions.
5. Ability to perform certain basic computer functions including, but not limited to Colleague, Etrieve and Microsoft Office.
6. Attention to detail is needed to ensure accuracy in all transactions.
7. Work well under pressure. During busy times, there can be long lines at the window, so the Cashier must be able stay calm and focused.
EDUCATION
High school diploma required. Some college is preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Cashier will work in the Miller Business Center at the cashier window. The position is based on approximately 15-18 hours per week. Occasional longer hours during busy times. Standard office environment, no major sources of discomfort.
