What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor position at Olmsted County?
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university including 18 semester credits in alcohol and drug counselor education and completion of an 880-hour alcohol and drug counselor practicum, or equivalent training that meets the requirements for Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) licensure.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Required Special Qualifications:
Licensed as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy is required upon employment.Under supervision, identifies individuals with a need and desire to enter clinical substance use disorder treatment. Meets with clients in a variety of locations in the community to conducts assessments, identify barriers, recommend treatment, and provide substance use counseling services. Manages client case files and maintains documentation. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.
- Provides substance use counseling services including screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, education, and consultation with other professionals.
- Recommends substance use disorder diagnosis.
- Meets with clients and families to identify needs and barriers. Recommends services and makes referrals to community resources.
- Completes and maintains documentation in compliance with statutory, program, and audit requirements.
- Assists with developing and conducting training for staff.
- Responds to calls and scenes in the community either with or without law enforcement, to provide assessment and de-escalation of mental health and/or chemical health situations.
- Works varied shifts to include weekends, nights, and holidays as needed for crisis response.
- Builds partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to expand our community’s mental health and substance use continuum of care.
- Performs related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of symptomatic patterns of substance dependency for diagnostic assessment.
