What are the responsibilities and job description for the Picker-Packer position at Olympia Chimney Supply?
Summary/Objective
The Picker/packer picks and prepares items for shipment by performing the following duties to safety, quality and productivity standards.
Essential Functions
- Pick product: learn product, read orders, and pick product using RF scanner gun, tugger, picker and/or electric pallet jack (must be able to lift 50 lbs.)
- May operate the stretch-wrap banders (pallet wrapping)
- May operate the cherry picker/high-reach truck or climb stair-ladder to pick items on higher shelves
- Use a standard pallet jack or, if certified, an electric pallet jack
- Pack and examine outgoing shipments
- Report inventory concerns or shortages with supervisor and via shared computer worksheet
- Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
- May enter information into the shipping system
- Pack trucks: verify contents, determine best way to pack (palletize, wrap v. strap) and load trucks
- Must be very accurate
- Other duties as assigned

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. Temperature is varied to the temperature outside due to open doors and garages.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items 50 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position during the first shift of the workday, currently 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. These hours will be up to an hour later during busy season (fall and early winter schedule is 9:30 am to 6:00 pm).

Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of a high school education or GED equivalent
- Prior pick/pack work preferred, but not required
- Must have good attention to detail
