ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the general supervision of the Digital Engagement Manager, this position assists with the broadcast of Olympia City Council meetings, including operating video cameras, switchers and graphics, audio monitoring / mixing, meeting setup / breakdown and preparation of recordings for online streaming. Position may also assist with a variety of other live and pre-recorded video productions.

This is a limited part-time position, working 5 hours per week.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Practical knowledge of the operation of camera, audio and lighting equipment.
  • Strong understanding of television production procedures and techniques, including lighting, audio and post-production.
  • Experience in a multi-camera television production environment focused on live events is preferred.
  • Work a flexible schedule including evenings.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to :

    1. Serves in various crew positions on single and multi-camera live productions including community events and government meetings.

    2. Sets up and operation of a variety of special equipment related to television production including studio cameras, switchers, wired and wireless audio systems, graphics, teleprompter and other production equipment.

    3. Performs camera setup and operations for pre-recorded video production projects.

    4. Sets up and operates audio equipment including microphones and mixing boards.

    5. Operates lighting equipment and adjusts lighting settings as needed.

    6. Edits footage using video editing software, ensuring adherence to project specifications.

    7. Ensures project files and assets are maintained and organized according to department guidelines for easy access and retrieval.

    8. Collaborates with department and team members to ensure project goals and expectations are met.

    9. Attends meetings and provides updates on project progress and timelines.

    10. Troubleshoots technical issues during production and post-production, seeking assistance from supervisors or technical support as needed.

    11. Maintains clean and organized workspaces; ensures equipment is properly stored and maintained.

    12. Stays current with industry trends and best practices, incorporating new techniques and technologies into video production workflows.

    13. Contributes to the creative process by offering ideas and suggestions for improving video content and production processes.

    14. Follows City and public safety guidelines and protocols and performs job functions in a safe manner; reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures.

    15. Punctual, regular and reliable attendance is essential for successful job performance.

    TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    1. Knowledge of principles, technology and operation of broadcast television communication equipment and systems.

    2. Knowledge of principles and practices of producing live and pre-recorded video programming.

    3. Knowledge of fundamentals of audio engineering and production.

    4. Knowledge of operating characteristics of video and production equipment, including maintenance and minor equipment repairs.

    5. Knowledge of video accessibility guidelines and requirements.

    6. Skill in the use of various video and audio editing and production programs.

    7. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software; ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required.

    8. Ability to think both creatively and strategically.

    10. Ability to produce high-quality video programming - both in studio and in the field.

    11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

    Education / Experience

  • 1. High school diploma or GED and two (1) year audiovisual production experience;
  • 2. OR associate degree in video engineering, television production, film production or a related field;
  • 3. OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.

    26.95 - $32.76
