Located in the Olympic College Center for Learning Innovation, the Instructional Designer will work closely with faculty, the instructional design team, and accessibility personnel to advance Olympic College's commitment to equity and inclusion through quality course design, accessible electronic materials, and thoughtful use of instructional technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and collaboration skills; prioritize and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision; facilitate complex and sensitive conversations with diplomacy and trustworthiness; and develop creative, accessible solutions for academic instruction and online learning.

Collaborate with senior leadership, key stakeholders, and subject matter experts to identify learning needs and develop comprehensive learning strategies. Ensure quality course design, development, and delivery, including evidence-based, learner-centered approaches to course design and instruction, adherence to accessibility and copyright laws, and support in meeting college, state, and national standards for quality teaching.
Essential Functions
- Lead and mentor a team of instructional designers, provide guidance and support throughout the instructional design process.
- Drive innovative instructional design initiatives and develop impactful learning solutions that align with the institutional goals and objectives.
- Manage the Instructional Design team to provide professional development opportunities on quality instruction in a variety of formats.
- Manage instructional design projects from conception to implementation. Ensure that learning solutions incorporate best practices in instructional design, adult learning theory, and user experience design.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, key stakeholders, and subject matter experts to identify learning needs and develop comprehensive learning strategies and training opportunities.
- Establish processes and standards for instructional design projects, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and quality across all deliverables.
- Ensure quality course design, development, and delivery, including evidence-based, learner-centered approaches to course design and instruction, adherence to accessibility and copyright laws, and support in meeting college, state, and national standards for quality teaching.
- Apply inclusive, evidence-based learning theory and best practices to course design; offer creative and innovative ideas for teaching, learning, and assessment to support student success.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of learning solutions through assessments, student evaluations, and performance metrics, and make data-driven recommendations for improvements.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous learning within the instructional design team.
- Encourage instructional design team to stay abreast on student-centered use of the learning management system and instructional technologies; advise on integration of a wide range of instructional technologies into course design and delivery to support student learning and work collectively with campus partners toward closing equity gaps and ensuring student success.
- Share expertise with faculty and staff in development of instructional materials in a variety of formats (text, image, audio, video, etc.); assist in checking materials for accessibility in compliance with state and federal laws and alignment with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Actively collaborate with Accessibility Coordinator on the instructional accessibility efforts on various projects; coordinate faculty, staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth handoffs that support accessible, inclusive, and equitable learning experiences for all students.
- Proactively monitor student, faculty, and staff technical support requests and address or escalate as needed using the appropriate channel.
- Collaborate with units across the college, including access services, IT, library, advising, communications/marketing, and academic departments, and divisions, etc.
- Advocate for quality assurance standards-driven, student-centered, inclusive course design and instructional materials in consultation meetings with key stakeholders.
- Document and communicate project plans, ongoing status, and achievements to supervisor and key stakeholders regularly.
- Contribute to CLI strategic and operational planning, development of new services, support for initiatives and events, and program assessment.
- Participate in college councils, committees, and workgroups as needed.
- Conduct consultation sessions with leadership and key stakeholders on instructional design projects that have institutional impact.
- Lead Instructional Design team on the design and development process, from inception to completion.
- Lead Instructional Design team to consult, revise, design and develop courses on LMS in collaboration with subject matter experts.
- Manage the Instructional Design team to provide professional development opportunities on quality instruction in a variety of formats.
- Lead the Instructional Design team to create training materials that support learner-centered, inclusive, quality course design as well as adherence to equity, accessibility standards and copyright law.
- Decisions that require approval from their supervisor, VPI, AHE Faculty union, or budget allocations.
- Administrator requests related to faculty process or performance.
- Student concerns or complaints.
- Occasional travel for professional development
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Two years of teaching or training experience.
- Evidence of instructional design expertise for online and digital learning.
- Knowledge and application of UDL, WCAG and ADA standards.
- Instructional proficiency with a major education Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Preferred Qualifications
- Higher education teaching experience, community college preferred.
- Quality Matters or other industry recognized quality assurance training
- Experience using Canvas LMS
- Experience designing instructional materials using software such as DesignPlus, Articulate 360 or similar
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS

Terms of Employment
This is a Full-time exempt position scheduled to work Monday through Friday. The salary for this position is $81,127 - $91,268 annually, which includes a generous benefits package that includes the following.
