If you love animals and want to make a difference in their lives, this may be the perfect position for you! Olympic Peninsula Humane Society (OPHS), a no-kill shelter, is looking for a full-time Kennel Technician to care for our wards' physical and emotional well-being.
The primary responsibility of a Kennel Tech is to provide the dogs and cats with their physical needs (fresh water and food, daily walks, medications, baths, clean beds and blankets, physical exercise, etc.) as well as their socialization needs including enrichment activities and training to help increase viable adoptions.
Duties:
* Getting to know the animals (their personalities and characteristics) to allow OPHS to find the perfect match to ensure placement success
*Counseling potential adopters and other customers about the animals, adoption procedures, ongoing care and other shelter related topics
* Providing a safe and healthy environment including cleaning and disinfecting sleeping areas and other areas of the facility
* General care - feeding, watering, walking, medicating, bathing, socializing, observing any behavioral or medical issues
*Keeping supervisor and medical supervisor informed of animals' behavioral or medical issues and helping develop individualized care plans
* Learning positive reinforcement training and handling techniques as provided by OPHS staff
* Perform miscellaneous duties as instructed by supervisor
Requirements:
* Genuine compassion, concern, and respect for animals
* Dependability and strong work ethic
* Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
* Must be able to work on feet for long hours
* Must be able to bend, twist, lift and carry large items
* Must have reliable transportation (the bus does not go past the shelter)
* Must be 18 yrs old or older
* Previous animal handling experience (not just pet ownership) a plus
* Personal and work references
