Job Summary:

The Area Maintenance Supervisor is a key leader in the Facilities Maintenance Team for Mt. Van Hoevenberg and the Olympic Jumping Complex. This full-time, year-round role is responsible for directing and executing maintenance operations, ensuring the upkeep of grounds, infrastructure, and equipment. The Supervisor supports and motivates staff, enforces safety standards, and ensures work is completed efficiently and to high standards.

The position also contributes to public attractions, recreation, and competition facility maintenance, including support for events and group hosting. The Supervisor works closely with other departments and reports directly to Facilities Manager. Weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, and on-call duties may be required.

Primary Responsibilities include:

Operations and Maintenance:

  • Direct snow and ice management, including plowing, salting, and maintaining safe access for pedestrians and vehicles.
  • Supervise landscaping activities, such as mowing, pruning, planting, irrigation maintenance, and turf management.
  • Oversee maintenance of stormwater systems, including clearing ditches, catch basins, and culverts to prevent flooding.
  • Manage repairs and upkeep of roads, parking areas, walkways, and outdoor structures, addressing issues like potholes, surface grading, and painting.
  • Coordinate waste removal and recycling efforts while managing fuel storage and delivery systems in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and repairs for facilities and sports training equipment to ensure functionality and safety.

Safety and Risk Management:

  • Train and supervise staff on safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout, confined space procedures, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and mitigate safety risks, promptly addressing hazards to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors.
  • Report incidents, accidents, and near-misses accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring corrective actions are taken.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and supplies, ensuring timely procurement to support maintenance operations.
  • Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to document work orders, track activities, and plan maintenance schedules.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Lead regular team meetings to communicate priorities, address challenges, and ensure alignment with operational goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid NYS Driver’s License.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree or vocational training in trades preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership role.
  • Broad technical knowledge of skilled trades, maintenance practices, and equipment operation.
  • Familiarity with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with CMMS software.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform tasks at heights.

Wage/Salary:

This position is identified as a Grade 19 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with an entry rate of $30.27 per hour. The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (sick, vacation, and personal time), paid holidays, health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems, and participation in NYS Deferred Compensation, as defined under the CSEA contract.
