What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lift Operations Supervisor Assistant position at Olympic Regional Development Authority?
The Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) is seeking a talented, motivated, customer-oriented individual to be its Lift Operations Assistant Supervisor at its Belleayre Mountain. The Lift Operations Supervisor Assistant is full-time, year-round position that is responsible and accountable for assisting the Lift Operations Supervisor in overseeing all daily lift operations at the mountain. This position helps oversees a staff of approximately 65 people during the winter season and reports to the Lift Operations Supervisor. This position is located in Highmount, NY.
Belleayre Mountain is located in the heart of the Catskills and is home to New York State’s first chair lift. Skiers and riders come from a variety of locations including New York City and the Tri-State area and have access to 1,404 feet of vertical drop over 63 alpine trails, in addition to 9.2 kilometers of cross-country ski trails. Recent improvements include summit learning zone, significant lodge expansion, and snowmaking upgrades.
Work is performed on-site and outside at Belleayre Mountain in all weather conditions. Weekend and Holiday work will be required as will work outside the normal workday as is necessary to fulfill obligations. Occasional travel may be required.
Essential Duties (this list is not exhaustive):
- Responsible for assisting in the oversight of the daily lift operations of all ski lifts at Belleayre.
- Ensure that: lifts open on time; staff are providing excellent customer service; there is minimal interruption of lift service; customer concerns are addressed appropriately and efficiently; lift areas are neat, tidy and running efficiently; and paperwork is completed timely and accurately.
- Inspect lifts, lift shacks, loading areas, off ramps, lift lines, and scanning areas several times per day and take any necessary action to ensure continued efficient and safe operations.
- Ensure safety procedures are being adhered to and take corrective action as necessary; to ensure the safety of guests and staff.
- Assist in scheduling of staff, monitor work in progress, direct staff, and provide daily work assignments.
- Monitor all lift operations including RFID gates and take necessary action to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Assist in scheduling necessary breaks to operators and scanners, and work as an operator or scanner if needed.
- Supervisory responsibilities include assisting in assigning work, providing on-hill training, taking corrective actions, educating staff, and recommending formal discipline if required.
- Summer responsibilities will involve planning for the winter season and providing other operational support as assigned; this could include but not limited to Lift Shack upkeep, weed whacking, mowing.
- Summer operations: assisting with staffing and operations of the Gondola Friday-Sundays and weddings. Operation of the climbing wall.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be proficient at skiing or riding and possess the ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively. Must be able to lift 75lbs. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Knowledgeable in lift codes. Should possess a high school diploma or equivalent along with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in lift operations, and one (1) year of experience supervising a work crew. Knowledge related to lift operations, risk management, and customer service is required. Must be enthusiastic about providing exceptional customer service.
Other Considerations: In addition to having lift operations experience, the ideal candidate will be an effective team leader. Should be a self-motivator and an effective communicator.
Compensation and Benefits: Wage: This position carries an Entry rate of $26.08/hr.at a Grade 17 under the current CSEA Contract on the Hourly Compensation Schedule. The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package per the CSEA contract that includes paid leave (sick, vacation, and personal time), paid holidays, health, dental, and vision coverage, participation in the NYS and Local Retirement System, and optional participation in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.
