Omaha Magazine, a leading city/regional publication, is seeking an experienced Executive Editor to helm its editorial team. This role will drive content strategy and oversee multiple publications under the Omaha Magazine umbrella, continuing our tradition of award-winning storytelling about the Omaha community . Key Responsibilities
• Lead Editorial Vision & Content: Oversee all editorial content and operations for Omaha Magazine and its sister publications, ensuring stories are high-quality, engaging, and aligned with the magazine’s mission and voice .
• Team Management: Manage and mentor the editorial staff (writers, editors, freelancers), fostering an innovative and collaborative newsroom culture that produces top-tier journalism .
• Strategic Planning: Develop and implement long-term editorial strategies across print and digital platforms – from planning issue lineups to launching special projects – in coordination with the Publisher and company leadership .
• Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (design, marketing, advertising) to maintain a cohesive brand voice and ensure content is presented effectively, supporting overall audience growth and engagement goals .
• Community Engagement & Events: Serve as a public-facing ambassador for Omaha Magazine, representing the publication at community events and helping support signature programs (e.g., launch parties, Best of Omaha events) that extend our reach in the community .
Required Qualifications
• Leadership & Editorial Experience: Extensive journalism experience (approximately 10 years), including at least 5 years in an editorial leadership role . Proven ability to lead a newsroom team and guide editorial direction is essential.
• Content & Digital Savvy: Strong editorial judgment with a knack for both print and digital storytelling. Comfortable overseeing multimedia content and using digital analytics tools to inform content strategy .
• Strong Communicator & Team Leader: Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills. Able to guide veteran and emerging journalists through changes and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams .
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus) . A deep understanding of the Omaha area and its culture is beneficial for this role.
