Job Title: Teaching and Learning Consultant, Career and Technical Education

 

Location: Teacher Administrative Center (TAC), 3215 Cuming Street, Omaha, NE 68131 Department of Curriculum and Instruction Support

 

Reports To: Executive Director of Secondary Education

 

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 261 Day, 12-month / Salaried - Exempt

 

Salary Schedule:  Omaha School Administrators Association (OSAA) Level 6 / Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.  Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable summary document.

 

Anticipated Start Date:  August 1, 2025 

 

Position Purpose: The Teaching and Learning Consultant for Career and Technical Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction Support is collaboratively responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of Career and Technical Education (CTE) curriculum, including some but not all of the following career fields: Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources, Human Sciences and Education, Business, Marketing, and Management, Health Sciences, Communication and Information Systems, and/or Skilled and Technical Sciences. This individual will assist students in preparation for college, career, and life following the Nebraska Standards for Career Readiness and exhibit strong standards of professional ethics when relating to staff, students, parents, administration, and the community. This individual will also support the district goal of all students reading on grade level by 2030. 

 

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate new and emerging trends in career and technical education and communicate that information to school staff. 
  • Follow district guidelines detailed in the Curriculum Development Cycle as they pertain to the field testing and adoption of new materials. 
  • Facilitate, review, and approve curriculum development including curriculum guides for CTE courses and electives. 
  • Support model programs of study and course standards in Career and Technical Education.  
  • Support the continuous improvement of College & Career Academy and Pathway courses and programming.  
  • Review, revise, and maintain a list of approved resources. 
  • Support student organizations and competitions such as Skills USA and robotics.  
  • Work with principals, program directors, curriculum specialists, instructional facilitators, and CTE teachers to ensure adequate resources and equipment. 
  • Design, deliver, and/or oversee professional learning opportunities throughout the school year including New Teacher Institute, District Professional Learning Days, Articulation Day, summer workshops, and curriculum writing. 
  • Regularly collect feedback from teachers to proactively plan applicable professional development. 
  • Conduct district-wide staff observations and coaching visits to support instructional best practices. 
  • Provide appraisal support to schools as designated. 
  • Collaborate with IMS to provide rostering and troubleshooting support for online resources. 
  • Review, revise, and maintain the CTE course codes and descriptions and ensure they align with state course codes and teacher endorsements. 
  • Using available data, assist schools in identifying students in need of additional support and additional instructional practices to differentiate according to student needs. 
  • Oversee off-formula funds for designated CTE areas. 
  • Provides input on CTE funding sources in alignment with content areas.  
  • Work collectively with Teaching and Learning Consultants for collaboration and alignment of various projects. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A minimum of a master’s degree with appropriate coursework in educational administration. 
  • A valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate with endorsements in a Career and Technical Education endorsement or related area.  
  • An administrative endorsement on your Nebraska Teaching Certificate, required.  
  • A minimum of five years successful teaching experience is required. Previous experience as a CTE teacher, specifically in the skilled and technical sciences, and experience in administration and supervision are preferred. 
  • Ability to monitor the implementation of the curriculum in CTE classrooms. 
  • Exemplary organizational, oral, and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to utilize organizational skills for effective facilitation and implementation of career and technical education curriculum. 
  • Skills which foster a team environment. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, staff, and community members. 
  • Knowledge of current research, standards, assessments, and best practices of instruction in career and technical education; and the ability to develop curriculum and assessments. 
  • Ability to organize and set priorities. 
  • Willingness and demonstrated abilities conducive to the continuous quest for quality. 
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance. 
  • Knowledge of OPS’s mission, purpose, goals, and the role of every employee in achieving each of them. 
  • Skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, parents, community agencies, members of the instructional staff, classroom teachers and administrators. 
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

 

Additional Duties:  Performs other related tasks as assigned by central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

 

Equipment: This position requires the ability to use interactive presentation technology, and a variety of electronic devices in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machines.  Must always comply with OPS’s guidelines for equipment use.

 

Travel:  Travel between OPS school buildings and the Central Office will be required.

 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in standard office and school building environment.

Interrelations

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the department supervisor in order to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Works with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • For schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

Terms of Employment 

This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies, as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative, then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative. 

 

Terms of employment are contingent upon: 

  • Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license. 
  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students. 
  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States. 
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position). 
  • Execution and delivery to OPS of an Administrator Contract presented by OPS.
