Gift Shop Cashier
Job Title: Gift Shop Cashier
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Hours: Part-time, seasonal (flexible schedule available; 24 hours per week including weekends and holidays; potential for more hours if desired; season runs from March - October)
Summary:
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Gift Shop Cashier to provide excellent guest service to the public by answering routine questions, greeting guests, selling tickets, and following ticketing policies with excellent cash handling skills. Assists in cleaning tasks around the gift shop area. This position reports directly to the Gift Shop Assistant Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Operate POS systems in accordance to policy with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Works in a professional manner to provide exceptional guest service in a high traffic location.
- Listens and communicates effectively while anticipating guest needs; works with Supervisor to resolve guests concerns.
- Count cash bank at start of shift to ensure proper balance.
- Accurately count back correct change during POS transactions.
- Maintain an accurate record of voids and refunds while reporting them to a Supervisor.
- At end of shift, consolidate cash bank in an orderly manner into the ticketing bag.
- Responsible for depositing the ticketing bag in its secured location.
- Adhere and comply with the Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium Employee handbook.
- Ensure cleanliness standards are maintained in the gift shop.
- Ensures merchandise displays are full and correctly merchandised.
- Adhere to safe work practice and procedures. Report any accidents immediately to Supervisor or Manager.
- Promotes a teamwork environment; assist co-workers when necessary.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must be available to work at least 24 hours each week.
- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Must have an outgoing and engaging personality.
- Able to communicate clearly.
Experience:
- Prior cash handling experience preferred but not required.
- Prior guest service experience preferred but not required.
Working Environment and Physical Effort:
Work is primarily performed indoors in a climate controlled environment, but employees may be asked to perform in other areas to include outdoor locations. Must wear close toe shoes. While in performance of job duties the employee is required to stand; walk, use hands to handle, signal and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch and/or crawl; talk and hear; occasionally required to sit and frequently lift 25 pounds using safe and proper methods.
