What are the responsibilities and job description for the Center Aide position at Omaha Tribe of Nebraska?
SUMMARY: The Center Aide is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Head Start and Early Head Start Program. This employee will fill in where needed and as extra duties are needed in program operations. Work hours may be adjusted, per authorization of supervisor and/or Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- The Center Aide will report to work Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- Must notify the supervisor and the program before 6:45 a.m. if unable to work.
- Mandatory reporter of all incidents of child abuse and neglect.
- Handles confidential information with discretion concerning all children.
- Attends training classes and Head Start in-service orientation.
- Must be able to report to work as schedule directs.
- Limit discussion of children, families, and staff; discuss factual information.
- Avoid gossip and inappropriate labels; avoid gossip about staff's personal/professional status.
- Do not talk about children disparagingly in front of other children.
- Be willing to establish nurturing bonds with children and foster a positive relationship with parents/guardians, supports parents in their role as primary educator of their child.
- The Center Aide will serve as a substitute in the following areas:

- Teacher's Aide/Bus Monitor - responsible for assisting with the supervision, development, and implementation of program activities and functions, while supporting staff and parent volunteers, rules, and regulations to ensure the health and safety of the children in the program.
- Teacher's Aide/Bus Monitor - will accompany children on the bus and ensure that safety measures are taken and assist children on and off the bus.
- Assistant Cook - assist in the preparation of food for the Head Start and Early Head Start children and families. Assist in the clean-up process after meals and snacks have been properly served.
- Office Assistant - answers the phones, greets the public/parents that come to the center, and directs them to appropriate departments. Assist with running copies for respective departments upon request.
- Infant and Toddler Substitute Teacher - responsible for assisting with the supervision, development, and implementation of program activities and functions while supporting staff and parent volunteers, rules, and regulations to ensure the health and safety of the children in the program.
- Maintenance/Custodian - daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, bathrooms, and common areas, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and emptying trash. Checks and replenishes bathroom and classroom supplies (paper towels, facial tissue, hand soap, disinfectant, sanitizer, etc.) as needed.
- Must uphold the confidentiality of child and family information in accordance with the confidentiality policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned as vacancies occur
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma/ GED; and/or a combination of knowledge and philosophy of practices of early childhood education, and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Can enroll in a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) program and complete the CDA program within 1 year and enroll in an associate degree program in Early Childhood Education or related field, AND one year experience working with pre-school age children in a classroom setting.
- Must have knowledge and at least one year's experience in child development and early childhood education.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be capable of heavy lifting.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Nebraska driver's license preferred, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Be able to verbally communicate and have the necessary personal qualifications to deal with staff and individuals/groups with varying abilities.
- Possess the ability to accept directions and learn under supervision.
- Flexible, with the ability to work in a highly demanding environment.
- Ability to cooperate successfully as a member of a team.
