What are the responsibilities and job description for the Childcare Supervisor position at Omaha Tribe of Nebraska?
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing supervisory services to the Mark of Honor Child Care Workers. The Child Care Supervisor will ensure all procedures and practices are being followed in accordance with the MOHYS Policies & Procedures to ensure the Safety of youth that are admitted into the MOHYS. Child Care Worker Supervisor will monitor and update, when necessary, all LOG IN information/procedures as it pertains to all youth who are admitted into the MOHYS. The MOHYS Supervisor is expected to specialize in helping vulnerable children and youth with emotional, social and behavioral difficulties to manage their daily activities. Their primary duties include teaching children simple living skills, tracking children's progress and preparing nutritious meals. The MOHYS Supervisor is expected to cover diverse shifts to supervise when needed to ensure the MOHYS Standard of operations is being met in providing a safe and nurturing environment for all children and youth placed at MOHYS. The MOHYS Supervisor will manage and assist to meet the needs of children and youth, as well as assist with intake, working with child welfare caseworkers, family members, law enforcement, referring agency personnel, and the general public The MOHYS Child Care Worker Supervisor will also assist in team case management for residents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Demonstrates the Omaha Family Resource Center's core mission, vision, and values.
- Follows all Mark of Honor Youth Shelter Policies and Procedures.
- Provides a trauma informed environment, atmosphere, and approach.
- Works with the MOHYS Director, Family Resource Center staff, and other Youth Shelter staff in developing trauma-focused and cultural services.
- Assists with purchasing materials and supplies for the facility.
- Consults with MOHYS Director on a regular basis to discuss Progress and activity of the MOHYS which may or may not need guidance toward the goals set forth in in the MOHYS Training plan
- Monitors record keeping of monthly statistics on service provisions and other functions which impact the level of program care and submits this information to higher level management to ensure documentation and communication requirements are met.
- Plans, assigns, directs and evaluates the work of staff members including work schedules and assignments to ensure efficient and effective accomplishment of work.
- Ensures safety and security of all residents at all times.
- Participates in all training or in-service dedicated to Youth Shelter services or activities.
- Direct involvement with youth behavior such as aggression, emotional difficulties, or conflict.
- Works with the referring CFS caseworkers and/or police officers to ensure all intakes are complete and follow-up recommendations are complete.
- Provides clear and concise information to parents/guardians/family regarding residents.
- Makes residents placed in the facility aware of their responsibilities towards other residents, the facility, and/or house rules.
- Implements age appropriate behavior plans for residents displaying inappropriate behavior or language.
- Manages health care needs of residents including dispensing medications, special diets, appointments, etc.
- Assists children with washing and dressing themselves.
- Prepares healthy and nutritious meals and snacks and help children to eat.
- Performs daily household tasks, such as cleaning, shopping, and laundry.
- Supports the social, cultural, mental and physical wellbeing of residents through various activities and outings.
- Provides quality infant care, changing diapers as needed, feeding and with naps.
- Provides assistance with children utilizing "potty" chairs, wiping, eating, etc.
- Assists residents with making sure school assignments or homework is completed in order to meet the educational needs of residents.
- Assists in maintaining the facility, property, and vehicles.
- Assists with interaction between the Youth Shelter and partnering service providers and the community.
- Communicates resident needs and concerns to the Youth Shelter Director.
- Works within a team case management approach by coordinating information and collecting data/information in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Youth Shelter Director.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous child care experience is preferred (Either from a licensed facility or program or a licensed home daycare).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be in suitable physical condition to handle physically aggressive youth.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and eligibility for tribal insurance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
- Ability to deal with public and employees courteously and tactfully, to elicit information effectively, to convey concise and accurate explanations of Youth Shelter policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Able to work flexible shifts and to be on-call.
- Ability with limited supervision to make decisions and be able to work effectively in crisis or stressful situations.
- Possess above average social interaction, reasoning skills
