Job Summary :
As a member of the district school counseling staff, a counselor contributes to student success in visible and meaningful ways. The counselor provides activities and services that develop the academic, career and personal / social competencies of students, consults with teachers, staff and parents to enhance their effectiveness in helping students, and advances the mission of the school / district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Provide universal Tier I support services to middle school students, (e.g. grief counseling, friendship development, academic improvement, bullying / harassment, involvement in activities, etc.).
- Assist administration with master schedule development and participate in Skyward trainings.
- Coordinate and facilitate student course registration and enrollment.
- Provide counseling services individually and / or in groups for students.
- Provide counseling that will help students to overcome problems that impede learning and provide increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity.
- Confer with parents at school and / or home whenever necessary.
- Facilitate parent / teacher conferences.
- Become familiar with support systems in our community that provides support for families in crisis.
- Advise administrators and faculty on the matters of student progress and personal problems affecting achievement.
- Utilize appropriate school district services and coordinate with community agencies as needed.
- Take an active role in interpreting the school's guidance / counseling objectives to students, parents, and the community at large.
- Be involved with student activities.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the administration.
- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, administrators, parents / legal guardians, support groups, and community members.

Physical Requirements :
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands : occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking and 30% standing. This job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.
