Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Machinist Apprentice to join our team in a dynamic job shop environment. This role offers hands-on training and growth opportunities for individuals passionate about machining and fabrication. The ideal candidate will assist in operating both conventional and CNC machinery, interpreting blueprints, and producing high-quality parts while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine parts accurately and efficiently in a job shop environment, following provided instructions.
- Operate a variety of machines, including mills, lathes, drill presses, and grinders (both conventional and CNC).
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
- Set up machines by selecting, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials.
- Complete work orders, accurately documenting time and materials used for each project.
- Inspect finished workpieces using precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, bore gauges, micrometers) to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Maintain the cleanliness and functionality of shop equipment and work areas.
- Assist with tasks outside of machining, supporting the fabrication and assembly departments as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Intermediate math skills, including geometry and measurements.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of machining principles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
- Ability to lift and carry tools and materials up to 50 lbs.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
- Forklift certification is preferred but not required.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to producing high-quality work.
