What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Manager position at OMCO Solar?
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Maintains material pipeline based on future awarded projects, sales forecasts / buffer & Bill of Materials.
- Works with Corporate purchasing department for materials.
- When required, negotiates supplier costs.
- Investigates and requests quotes for future and current products. Establishes supplier diversity.
- Communicates with Production / Operations about current stock and potential issues with orders.
- Oversees the storage, control, and distribution movement of materials.
- Communicates raw material availability to production both verbally and through proper report maintenance; provides updates regarding status or inventory of materials needed to meet production needs.
- Ensures accurate product inventory levels for existing projects and forecast / buffer.
- Conducts daily analyses to forecast potential inventory issues.
- Reports on inventory activities and variances.
- Develops, implements and maintains inventory control procedures and best practices
- Performs write-offs on damaged or obsolete inventory to reflect accurate value of inventory.
- Maintain & prepares Part IDs & Worker Order schedules.
- Manages and negotiates with all third-party transportation companies.
- Negotiates shipping costs, in order to improve the efficiency of the company’s supply chain.
- Assesses new inventory to ensure it is ready for shipping or delivery.
- Ships finished goods on time to customers.
- Supports other locations with raw materials as needed.
- Manages all special project shipping and logistics that include equipment, prototypes, raw materials and finished goods.
- Oversees work of employees who :
- Unload raw materials and update inventory.
- Provide incoming inspection of all raw materials.
- Maintain inventory of production supplies.
- Manage tool crib using min / max Kanaban system.
