Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Public Tax Accountant to prepare and review tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
The accountant will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and be able to compile accounting and financial reports for the client.
You will play a key role in ensuring our clients' tax compliance and providing valuable planning advice.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
- Conduct tax research and stay up-to-date on changes in tax laws and regulations.
- Assist with tax planning and provide proactive tax advice to clients.
- Respond to client inquiries and resolve tax-related issues.
- Maintain accurate and organized client records.
- Assist with tax audits and represent clients before tax authorities.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate completion of client projects.
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance tax knowledge and skills.
- Utilize tax software and other relevant technology efficiently.
- Prepare and record journal entries for various transactions.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Assist with the month-end and year-end close processes, including preparing financial statements.
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and other accounting tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1-4 years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax preparation and planning.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in tax preparation software
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- EA, CPA or working towards CPA certification preferred.
- Experience with client interaction and management.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with specific industry tax regulations.
- Experience with tax planning for high-net-worth individuals or complex business structures.
- Strong excel use
- Advanced knowledge of tax research databases (e.g., Checkpoint, RIA).
