Engineering Technician
As an Engineering Technician supporting our Fiber Design Engineering Group, you will play a crucial role in assisting with the creation, review, and maintenance of fiber optic network designs. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and contractors to support the design and implementation of fiber optic networks, including backbone, distribution, and last-mile connections. Your responsibilities will include preparing documentation, performing site assessments, utilizing GIS/CAD software, and providing technical support throughout the design and deployment phases.
What You Will Do:
- Provide technical support to the Fiber Design Engineering Group by assisting with network design, documentation, and project coordination.
- Help develop and maintain fiber optic network designs, including backbone, distribution, and last-mile connections.
- Prepare and review detailed design documentation, such as network layouts, splice diagrams, and route maps.
- Assist in conducting site surveys and assessments to determine optimal fiber network routes and placements.
- Support the engineering team in creating and updating fiber construction drawings, including Bill of Materials (BoM) and Splice Schematics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, engineers, and contractors, to ensure that designs are accurately implemented.
- Assist in the preparation and review of as-built documentation to ensure network accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
- Utilize GIS and CAD software (e.g., ArcGIS, AutoCAD) to draft, develop, and refine fiber optic network designs.
- Ensure designs comply with industry standards, local regulations, and company guidelines.
- Assist with the preparation of feasibility studies, cost analysis, and vendor management processes.
- Help coordinate the resolution of any issues related to fiber design, construction, or network deployment.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in fiber optic technology and design best practices.
- Travel to job sites as needed to assist with site surveys, design verification, and project implementation.
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in telecommunications, with a focus on fiber optic network design or support.
- Experience with fiber optic network documentation, including network layouts, splice diagrams, and route maps.
- Proficiency in using GIS and CAD software (ArcGIS, AutoCAD, or similar tools) for drafting and developing designs.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic technology and network architecture, including OSP (Outside Plant) and MDU (Multi-Dwelling Unit) designs.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber network designs, workprints, and construction drawings.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineers, project managers, and contractors.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot design issues.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining high-quality, accurate design documentation.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Willingness to travel to job sites as required.
- A technical degree or certification in Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
