POSITION SUMMARY:

The estimator is a critical position that is responsible for evaluating project specifications and drawings, ensuring that Omni knows everything required to successfully bid and win the project. Estimators must follow up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received, complete and competitive. Estimators will also work with the Project Managers to follow-up on bids and budgets to close the business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keeps aware of all projects that will be out for bidding by reviewing Dodge reports, Builders' Exchange reports, etc.
  • Reviews specification information and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Prepares bids for projects, alone or with the help of estimators or other project managers, by analyzing blueprints and spec sheets to determine material and labor requirements.
  • Attend pre-bid walk- throughs and contractor meetings.
  • Consults with owners, contractors, vendors, foreman/superintendents, and project managers to develop and communicate estimates.
  • Discusses changes and adjustments to cost estimates with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Make follow-up calls to clients/contractors to develop and maintain good business relationships.
  • Communicate project details/strategy to Project Managers and jobsite foremen.
  • Continuously works in a safe manner to ensure safety of self and others.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 1-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience - Required
  • 5-10 years of experience in the construction industry - Preferred
  • Previous experience as a commercial/industrial painter- Preferred
  • Ability to read and comprehend architectural blueprints, drawings and specifications - Required
  • Basic math and algebra skills, along with the ability to understand ruler measurements - Required
  • Proficient in the use of PC and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook and Word) - Preferred
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including verbal, written, email and telephone communication - Required
  • Ability to work independently and/or within in a team and use sound judgment - Required
  • Advanced time management and organizational skills and be able to prioritize and multi-task - Preferred
  • Quality conscious with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to details - Preferred
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and decision making skills - Preferred
  • Ability to work extra hours as projects and workloads require - Preferred

  • Frequently required to stand, walk and reach with arms. Frequently required to sit for long periods of time.
  • May frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move 50lbs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequent exposure to fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Frequently required to work in high, precarious places using scaffolding, ladders, Scissor lifts or boom lifts or chairs.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet, and or humid conditions, extreme heat, vibration and inclement weather.
  • Noise level in the work environment is Frequently Moderate.
