We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing production, margin, and cost data on a monthly basis, providing management with up-to-date and reliable financial insights to drive business decisions. You will be tasked with building and enhancing reports and financial models to improve efficiency, clarity, and adaptability to evolving business needs. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and be able to effectively collaborate with local management, corporate departments, auditors, and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
What you will do:
Expense and Cost Center Reporting
- Review and analyze account and statement level variances
- Create and maintain effective cost center reporting
- Compare results and trends with other OmniSource divisions
Month End Closing
- Prepare and review month end reports, journal entries and financial statements
- Assist with inventory evaluations and control
- Review and analyze inventory and margin reports, conduct research and perform analytical studies regarding cost analyses and profitability
Fixed assets accounting and analysis
Forecasting and budgeting
Special projects
Other duties as assigned
Report fraudulent activity
Report all accidents and injuries immediately
Abide by employee handbook
Commitment to safety through actions and behaviors
Qualifications
What we look for:
Required
4-year Accounting or Finance degree
Experience with month end closings and reconciling general ledger accounts
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
Can-do approach and ability to excel in a high volume task environment
Excellent organizational, problem solving and time management skills
Flexibility to travel to other yards and Corporate office as needed (10-25% of the month)
Comfortable working safely in both office and scrap yard environments
Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
Self-directed team player dedicated to the success of the organization
3 years relevant accounting work experience
CPA, MBA, CMA or working toward obtaining
Experience with SAI, JDE, RIMAS and Microsoft Access
Preferred
