Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports
• Complies and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions
• Prepares monthly internal Financial Statements and analyzes financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position for management
• Records quarterly and year-end accrual entries
• Collects appropriate data and assists in the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns
• Reconciles bank statements
• Maintains various schedules and workpapers for month-end financial close processing
• Records and reconciles monthly investments, files investment confirms, analyzes investment impairment, prepares quarterly investment analysis and investment budget schedules
• Assists in budget preparation and interprets current and forecasted/budgeted company financial position results
• Maintains fixed assets
• Prepares monthly commission statements for agents
• Prepares various PowerPoint slides and underlying data for claims, finance and policy analysis
• Files regulatory items with the State Insurance Departments
• Assists in preparation of interim and annual audits
• Assists in the completion of NAIC quarterly and annual statements
• Research and documents new SSAPs, EITFs and FASBs
• Assist in documenting departmental procedures and internal controls
• Assists in departmental projects as needed
Qualifications:
• Degree in finance or accounting from a 4-year college or university; degree with concentration in Accounting highly preferred; will consider equivalent combination of education and professional experience
• Previous or current public accounting experience preferred
• Audit experience is a plus
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suites (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
