Job Description
The Quality Engineer is responsible for assisting in and directing the investigation and resolution of quality-related supplier, production, manufacturing, and design-related problems. The Quality Engineer acts as the customer’s advocate when customers have detected quality problems. The Quality Engineer must possess a comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and quality tools and have an unrelenting drive to enable OMW’s success.
OMW’s Quality Engineer needs excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Quality Engineer must be a proactive communicator who enjoys being hands-on. The Quality Engineer must fully understand customer requirements and have a sense of responsibility towards our potential and existing customers. The role requires adaptability, flexibility, and an agile mindset to manage competing priorities, support a broad range of business functions, and keep up with the fast pace of our team as we pursue meeting our customers’ needs. As a Quality Engineer your goal is to support the organization in delivering good products on time all while continuing to improve. The Quality Engineer plays a key role in supporting the sustainable growth and scalability of the organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Interface with Production, Operations, Quality Control, Shipping/Receiving, Planning, and Purchasing teams to develop appropriate quality signals and processes to meet overall quality and delivery goals.
- Maintain established quality processes and necessary procedures to ensure the identification, segregation, control, and disposition of all nonconforming materials at the business and supplier level.
- Responsible for containment actions associated with non-conforming products, including identification of product location, coordination of customer Return Material Authorizations, and the coordination of actions required to identify root cause analysis.
- Identify opportunities for risk reduction and removal of complexity in designs and processes to improve manufacturability, including outside processing, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive improvements and address high-impact and repeating non-conformances.
- Responsible for tracking yield, inspection escapes, and ensuring past failures and lessons learned are incorporated into internal processes.
- Respond to day-to-day design, production, and supplier and customer quality issues.
- Resolve production problems associated with process errors, non-conforming parts, and design problems.
- Assist with the application and monitoring of established inspection procedures and methods.
- Compile, tabulate and summarize data for analysis. Prepare and offer constructive input relative to variables and deviations from prescribed standards of quality.
- Review manufacturing instructions for completeness, correctness, and comprehension.
- Assist in ensuring that quality assurance specifications are met by manufacturing, quality control, suppliers, and other related functions.
Job Requirements
- Degree in a related engineering field (ME, EE, IE) or a related field.
- 2 – 3 years of related work experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong proficiency in reading and understanding various technical documents such as blueprints, material specifications sheets, etc.
- A deep technical and practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and standards.
- An ability to lead projects, help develop strategy, drive cross-functional team accountability, and deliver results.
- A passion for continuous improvement and a patience to shepherd ideas from initial requirements through execution.
- A willingness to roll up your sleeves and step into unknown situations to understand the current state and most optimal path forward.
- Be a voice of reason for reliability and ensure that product reliability risks are considered within the manufacturing process.
- Build relationships with cross-functional groups to identify, prioritize, and close any reliability or process gaps.
- An ability to lead groups in creating and refining ideas or solutions to problems, communicating the benefits of change, and keeping related projects on track.
- Knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001 standards.
- Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools.
- Experience using an ERP/MRP system.
- Experience in providing excellent customer service.
- Strong analytical skills

- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.
