Job Summary / Overview

The Fitness Director is responsible for planning, implementing and managing the fitness programs for all health and recreation facilities within On Top of the World Communities. This position is responsible for bringing the latest exercise programs that are safe and effective to the residents, clients and guests of OTOW.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the principal functions of this position and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.   • Creates a variety of exercise programs for facility clientele, OTOW residents and guests
  • Ensures staff is knowledgeable on the use and benefits of fitness equipment, services, products, programs, and activities through regularly scheduled staff meetings and training workshops
  • Prepares facilities for special fitness-related events
  • Presents educational programs on wellness at MTP, enhancing the quality of life for seniors and encouraging an active and fit lifestyle
  • Develops and plans a diverse calendar of member programs and activities to include fitness and wellness programs, sports, and lifestyle management programs
  • Conducts new resident orientations including an introduction to the fitness centers, facilities, services, programs, policies, procedures and Balance Assessments
  • Creates and implements an annual marketing and programming plan to promote all activities, encourage participation and maximize facility utilization
  • Develops member participation and recruitment plans and outlines in detail all promotions, fitness programs and any expenditures
  • Ensures all guest and class fees are correctly charged
  • Develops monthly and yearly management report outlining key program statistics and a summary of daily operations
  • Ensures fiscal responsibility through efficient scheduling of facility and makes changes to stay within budgetary guidelines as needed
  • Works to make sure other employees follow safe exercise practices
  • May be required to provide personal training and group class instruction when necessary
  • Listens to resident and member concerns and responds appropriately
  • Writes monthly fitness / wellness column for the World News
  • Directly supervises assigned employees, to include : interviewing, hiring and training staff, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, counseling and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
  • Performs all duties in adherence to Company standards
  • Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices
  • Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co-workers
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

    Education and Experience :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred
  • 5 years of professional senior-related fitness program experience required
  • 2 years of supervisory experience required
  • Current Personal Training certification required
  • Current specialty certifications in older adult fitness preferred
  • Current CPR / AED and first aid certifications required
  • Skills and Knowledge :

  • Must be able to read, write and understand English with strong business written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
  • Ability to express thoughts clearly and simply
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, required
  • Ability to demonstrate equipment use for exercise training
  • Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously
  • Effective leadership, decision-making and problem solving skills
  • Creativity, initiative, and good judgement
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate, implement and assess projects and personnel
  • Ability to work well with the public
