POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient use of manufacturing equipment such as lathes, milling machines, plasma cutters, laser cutters, and grinders within the Piping & Structural Fabrication Departments.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operate machinery such as robotic welders, saws, lathes, milling machines, plasma and later cutters, and grinders
Operate overhead cranes safely and efficiently
Maintain raw material inventories
Nest work orders to maximize material and machine efficiency.
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on machinery to ensure optimal performance.
Monitor the production process to ensure quality and accuracy, making adjustments as needed.
Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or malfunctions with the machinery.
Adhere to OSHA safety standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
Implement and follow company safety policies, conducting regular safety checks and reporting any safety concerns to the supervisor.
Participate in safety training sessions and ensure all safety protocols are followed to maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain accurate records of machine settings, maintenance activities, and production output.
Maintain a clean work area and follow 5S basics.
Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Other tasks as assigned by TAS.
JOB SKILLS
Ability to read blueprints and follow product specification instructions
Good command of the English language, both written and verbal is required.
Knowledge of Machine Operation: Understand how to operate the specific type of machine saw being used, including starting, stopping, and adjusting settings for different types of cuts.
Measurement Skills: Accurately measure and mark steel materials according to required dimensions for cutting, using tools such as tape measures, rulers, or calipers.
Monitoring: Continuously monitor the cutting process to ensure proper operation, adjusting as needed to maintain quality and accuracy.
Troubleshooting: Identify and address any issues or malfunctions with the machine or cutting process, such as blade dullness or material jams.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory management.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
High school diploma.
Additional vocational training or certification in machine operation is preferred.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Two years of fabrication experience.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Previous experience operating manufacturing equipment such as lathes, milling machines, plasma cutters, laser cutters, and grinders.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
Basic computer skills for documentation and inventory management.
Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various positions, including at heights and in confined spaces.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Forklift certification.
Crane certification.
Certification in machine operation or related field.
Experience with robotic welding systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex machine issues.
Good communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work performed in a shop environment
Exposed to any number of elements but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable
Requires normal vision and absence of color blindness
Physical effort equal to frequent moving of up to 50lbs materials
Regularly required to sit or stand, bend and reach
The use of Safety Glasses is required
The use of earplugs is recommended
Ability to stand up to 10 hours a day (with a lunch in between) and up to 6 days a week
Ability to work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
