Job Description

We are currently hiring a Cancer Registrar for our Professional Services team. Our Professional Services team offers oncology data services to our clients to catch up on abstracting backlogs, temporarily supplement current staff, or provide a more permanent solution through outsourcing. These non-certified positions will focus mainly on follow-up and casefinding with the opportunity to expand their role abstracting in the future pending certification.
Providing our growing customer base with the best services in the industry is the top priority for our technology company. We’re looking for a Cancer Registrar with the goal of becoming a Oncolog Data Specialist, Certified that would be interested in joining the team. The position will provide valuable casefinding and follow-up experience as you prepare to take the exam and is 100% remote.
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Professional Services or their designee, the cancer registrar provides case finding, follow-up, and coordinates cancer conference activity as directed. This individual is responsible for meeting productivity standards while assuring the confidentiality, accuracy and timeliness of all cancer related health information encountered.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Identify reportable/reportable by agreement/state reportable/and not reportable cases.
- Complete all Case Finding functions as required by contract.
- Use text to justify coding according to Onco/client specifications.
- Correct all errors identified during Onco quality review.
- Enter complete follow-up information on disease status, vital status, recurrence, subsequent treatment or other data elements as required by contract.
- Run reports independently to populate daily work list.
- Coordinate activities for multidisciplinary cancer conferences, collect, and report data to meet Commission on Cancer standards.
- Meet the productivity and quality standard as established for each contract.
- Maintain compliance with client’s abstracting policies and procedures.
- Abide by all Onco/client HIPAA regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned based on experience, knowledge and availability.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Effective communication skills with supervisors and peers and appropriate communication with clients
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible to adjust assignments as priorities change
- Must be able to meet deadlines and work with time constraints
- Requires the ability to use sound judgement based upon the latest guidelines from standard setters (CoC, SEER and NAACCR), as well as client policies
- Motivation to become a ODS preferred.
- Self-starter with the ability to work effectively within role, independently and with other team members
- Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner with minimal supervision
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s Degree or Equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of cancer registry experience or applicable work in a cancer-direct field is recommended.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and cancer disease processes preferred.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
