Position Summary
As a Substation Communication Technical Specialist at Oncor, you’ll be a part of our Transmission Relay and SCADA Support group providing in-house support to Transmission Operations, namely P&C (Protection & Control) Engineering Specialist, and System Protection personnel. This role includes establishing and maintaining effective relay protection policies, developing and reviewing procedures, providing training, and promoting work practices that encourage safe and reliable operation of the electrical system. Additionally, this role will support initiatives related to the internal and external communication of devices within the substation.
This position is based in our 777 Main St – Fort Worth, TX location.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop well-documented standard designs and configurations associated with the communication of substation IEDs (intelligent electronic devices) and network equipment, including but not limited to : SCADA, synchrophasor, remote access, automatic data retrieval, and protective equipment communications.
- Configure connected devices into applicable head-end systems during commissioning, as well as validate communication and functionality.
- Analyze and manage the installation and operation of connected devices and applicable head-end systems.
- Work closely with vendors / manufacturers and company engineering groups in researching, developing, and implementing new technology, both hardware and software.
- Aggressively pursue knowledge and education regarding current and future remote communication technologies and protocols.
- Develop and facilitate training of the P&C Engineering Specialist on communication used by substation IEDs and network equipment.
- Develop procedures, technical manuals, and design documents to ensure that Engineering, System Protection, IT and Operations personnel have a clear understanding of the application, installations, and operation of substation communications.
- Evaluate new developments and improvements to ensure that installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair processes / procedures are consistent with the most recent communication requirements.
- Provide in-house support to Transmission P&C Engineering Specialists, Transmission Operations, Engineering, System Protection, Telecom, and IT personnel to ensure Oncor remains compliant with NERC CIP (critical infrastructure protection) standards.
- Support Cyber Security and NERC CIP compliance, specific to the substation, by providing technical input into internal procedure development, execution, and documentation as needed.
- Perform all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.
