Position Summary
As part of our Transmission Grid (TG) Management team, you’ll have a basic understanding of electrical theory and power system operations, experience or knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, and experience operating power system equipment. This role must be capable of acquiring an in-depth working knowledge of power system and operational fundamentals through self-study and classroom training.
This role will be on-site based in our Transmission Grid Operating Center - Dallas, TX location. We are considering applicants with multiple experience levels and skills. Please see below for minimum experience requirements for each level.
Key Responsibilities:
- Successfully complete North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) training and background check.
- Within one year of employment obtain one of the following NERC Certifications:
- Reliability Coordinator
- Transmission Operator or,
- Balancing, Interchange and Transmission.
- Meet expectation for gaining a working knowledge of power system operations.
- Perform real time control room switching under the supervision of a Senior TG Controller.
- Perform duties and responsibilities under supervision of a Senior TG Controller.
Skills:
- Effectively communicates information with all required entities.
- Demonstrate effective and clear verbal and written communication.
- Ability to learn power system operations.
- Analytical thinking skills.
- Basic knowledge of power system facilities.
Education & Experience:
Transmission Grid Operator:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and 2 years of relevant work history required.
- Will consider applicants with Associate degree in electric power technology and 1 years of relevant work history in lieu of above criteria.
- Applicants that have completed a Navy Nuclear type program encouraged to apply.
In addition to the above, Transmission Grid Controller level must also have:
- NERC certification.
- Previous experience as a Transmission Operator.
Travel:
- Up to 25%
Measure of Success:
- Must be capable of progressing to Senior TG Controller.
- Obtained and maintain required certifications within the designated timeframe.
- Capable of successfully progressing through the Oncor Training Program and successfully complete a designated portion and/or all of our Oncor Training Program.
- Complete simulations and exercises in an acceptable manner.
- Exhibit a thorough understanding of Section 6 of the Oncor Transmission Safety Handbook.
- Exhibits the capability of acquiring in-depth operational knowledge.
