Position Summary:
One City Preparatory Academy seeks a passionate and dedicated Middle School Lead Teacher to join our team. The Middle School Lead Teacher will play a pivotal role in fostering a student-centered learning environment, driving academic excellence, and supporting the holistic development of our students in grades 6-8. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction, collaborating with colleagues, and contributing to the overall success of the middle school program.
Responsibilities:
- Instructional Leadership and Excellence:
- Design and implement engaging, standards-aligned curriculum and lesson plans that promote inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and real-world application of knowledge.
- Utilize a variety of research-based instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, including differentiation, project-based learning, and technology integration.
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction accordingly.
- Analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Foster a classroom environment that is conducive to learning, collaboration, and respect.
- Student-Centered Learning and Support:
- Create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom culture where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered to take ownership of their learning.
- Establish and maintain clear expectations for student behavior and academic performance.
- Provide individualized support and interventions to meet the unique needs of each student, including addressing academic, social, and emotional needs.
- Promote student voice and agency in the learning process.
- Build strong relationships with students and families, communicating regularly and effectively to support student success.
- Collaboration and Professionalism:
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, including grade-level teams, content specialists, and support staff, to ensure a cohesive and aligned educational program.
- Participate actively in school-wide initiatives, professional development opportunities, and the One City community.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide goals and objectives.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development, including staying current with best practices in middle school education and culturally responsive teaching.
- Mentor and support other teachers as needed.
- School-Wide Contributions:
- Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide initiatives and programs.
- Participate in school committees and activities.
- Actively contribute to the One City community by supporting school events and activities.
- Embrace and embody One City's core values, including a commitment to social justice, equity, and closing the opportunity gap.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- Valid Wisconsin teaching certification for middle school grades (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective middle school instructional practices.
- Experience in designing and implementing engaging, inquiry-based lessons.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive and productive learning environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in using technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
- A commitment to the mission, vision, and values of One City Schools.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and families.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in a diverse, urban school setting.
- Experience with EL Education model.
- Knowledge of relevant state and national standards.
- Experience with project-based learning and other student-centered instructional approaches.
- Leadership experience or a demonstrated ability to take on leadership roles.
