Acupuncturist
This position is to provide acupuncture services to outpatient population for a variety of conditions and ailments consistent with the scope of practice for acupuncture. The clinician filling this position shall practice in accordance with the principles of East Asian/Oriental medicine. Services will be provided in collaboration with patients' primary care clinicians.
Core Duties
Patient Care
- Meet with patients to obtain information about their complaints, symptoms, medical history, general health, diet, lifestyle, and psychological health.
- Assess patients' general physical appearance to make diagnoses and determine treatment plans and strategies.
- Explain procedures to patients and prepare them for treatment.
- Identify, explain, and obtain the consent of the precise location on a patient's body where needles, electrical or heat stimulation is to be applied.
- Treat patients using tools such as needles, and ear seeds.
- Suggest treatments involving diet, herbal medicine, and/or nutritional supplements, including reviewing risks, benefits, side effects, and drug interactions.
- Evaluate and document treatment outcomes and recommend new or altered treatments as necessary to further promote, restore, or maintain health.
- Document treatment in detail within the electronic health record.
- Consider Western medical procedures in health assessment, health care team communication, and care referrals.
- Educate patients on topics such as meditation, ergonomics, stretching, exercise, nutrition, the healing process, breathing, and relaxation techniques.
- Identify any medical emergencies requiring immediate allopathic treatment and referral to primary care.
Additional Duties
- Maintain and comply with quality, safety, environmental and infection prevention policies, and procedures, including clean needle technique.
- Work cooperatively with medical and administrative staff.
- Receive continuing education and keep up to date on industry practices and regulations.
- Adheres to local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and statutes.
- Monitors trends within the discipline and implements needed improvements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid and active California Acupuncture Board License
- Two years of acupuncture practice beyond the master's degree
Preferred
- EPIC experience
- Bilingual
