PROJECT CREW LEAD | ONE HAT ONE HAND
One Hat One Hand is hiring for full-time crew leads.
We are looking for skilled, dependable, professionals who are responsible for fabricating and installing as a crew lead for our high-end, custom fabrication projects.
We are seeking candidates who have five plus years of experience in the construction industry as a carpenter, metal worker, or installer and have finish level skills.
You will lead crews to fabricate and install custom architectural components, large multimedia art works, & interactive event experiences.
Overview
Project Leads are responsible for completing projects within the established timeline and
budgeted hours. They work hands-on leading the fabrication and installation teams, and
coordinate closely with the Project Manager and Designer to align on project goals.
Position in Organization
- Reports To: Production Management and Designer/Project Manager (per project)
- Shared Responsibility For: Fabrication crew (per project), project time tracking, and
the fabrication and installation scope
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead Fabrication & Installation Teams:
Oversee fabrication and installation crews to ensure projects are completed on time,
within budget, and meet the company’s quality standards. - Crew Communication & Support:
Ensure the fabrication and installation teams have all necessary drawings, materials,
and guidance to perform their work efficiently. - Set the Pace and Streamline Production:
Optimize and guide the build process by setting expectations and pace for the
fabrication crew, while maintaining awareness of budget constraints and project
deadlines. - Team Collaboration & Quality Control:
Act as a liaison between Production Managers, Project Managers/Designers, and the
Fabrication / Installation Crew to ensure smooth communication and effective quality
control on projects. - Daily Planning and Reporting:
Collaborate with the Project Manager to organize daily goals and provide end-of-day
(EOD) reports to track progress and address issues. - Problem Solving & Troubleshooting:
Participate in developing solutions for unforeseen issues and troubleshoot project flow
challenges in collaboration with all departments. - Ensure Health & Safety Compliance:
Ensure health and safety standards, including proper use of PPE, adherence to OSHA
regulations, and observance of meal and rest breaks. - Design & Feasibility Review:
Consult with Designers and Project Managers to review project feasibility, proactively
flagging any design, build, installation, budget, or timeline concerns. - Project Scheduling & Logistics Support:
Work with Project Managers and Production Management to plan space / labor needs,
production timelines, logistics for each project. - Post-Project Close Out:
Work with the Project Manager and Facilities Team to manage storage or disposal of
materials and fabricated items. - Cross Department Improvement:
Participate in ongoing improvements to systems and protocols, including post-project
reviews and developing actionable lessons learned.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Proficient in a wide range of multidisciplinary fabrication methods and practices.
- Solid knowledge and hands on experience with hand tools, power tools, and commonly
used materials in fabrication and construction. - Proven ability to meet strict deadlines and maintain efficiency in a fast-paced
environment. - Familiarity with schedules, procedures, and protocols in the commercial construction and
event production industries. - Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively, while actively listening and building upon
the ideas of others. - Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills for working across teams
and departments. - Competence in understanding and working from standardized build drawings, blueprints
and written instructions. - Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and task prioritization.
- Forward-thinking with the ability to anticipate needs, coordinate resources, and manage
timelines effectively. - Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including team motivation, conflict resolution, and
crew oversight.
General Requirements:
- Willingness to travel and occasionally work evenings, weekends, or extended hours.
- GED or High School Diploma required
- Must be over 25 yrs of age with a Valid Class B CA driver's license and maintain a
driving record free of any DUI charges within the past 5 years and no more than 2 points
on the license - OSHA 10 as requirement pre-hire (OSHA 30 a plus)
