Job Summary
Under the Executive Director of Residential Clinical Services, the Director of Nursing provides the overall leadership, management, and organizational development of programs and services for all medical departments. This position offers supervision, leadership, direction, and support to the medical team. The Director of Nursing also oversees training to staff with regard to medication administration, CPR and First Aid, physical impact of restraint, and other medical-related issues. Primary responsibilities include providing a healthy, safe, clinical, and structured environment, as specified in each youth’s Individual Treatment Plan and the OHU Residential Program Plan

Education:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role in a professional office environment; however, some active office tasks are required. This would require the ability to move about inside the office to access cabinets, office machinery, etc. This position occasionally requires the ability to move file boxes and office products. The employee is occasionally required to lift items up to 50 pounds and regularly lifts 10 to 15 pounds. The position requires visual and auditory acuity within professionally determined normal ranges, with correction if need; and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer and office equipment, including, but not limited to, the telephone, computer, and copier. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may occur.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Directs, monitors, and evaluates licensed and non-licensed nursing staff personnel.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing service department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the residential treatment program.
- Serves as the liaison for agency medical consultants.
- Develop, maintain, and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service department.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the Executive Director, as necessary/required, concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
- Review nurses’ notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided, that they reflect the client’s response to the care, and that such care is provided in accordance with the guardian’s recommendations.
- Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
- Coordinate continuing education/in-service training for nursing department.
- Develops, implements, and monitors the programs to add and expand behavioral health services as deemed appropriate.
- Participates in developing and implementing care coordination pertaining to behavioral health services, such as healthcare integration and evidence-based prevention and treatment approaches throughout the continuum.
- Performs duties in a manner to promote quality client care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, and cost efficiency.
- Participates in Policy Development to meet IDPH, Medicaid, OSHA and COA standards of care.
- Works with treatment team to provide high-quality care to OHU clients.
- Provide 24/7 on-call support for lead nurses.
- Builds alliances and partnerships with the community.
- Supervises program leaders and support staff.
- Prepares reports for use by the agency.
- Oversees team development, evaluation, and advocacy.
- Effectively works with diverse staff members.
- Empowers staff members to achieve outcomes; motivates staff towards goal attainment.
- Ensures compliance with all program contracts and grants.
- Plans and implements change effectively.
- Utilizes technology to effectively support the management function.
- Provides training to residential/program nurses regarding medical issues.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Desired: Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
- 3-5 years of progressive clinical and management experience in behavioral health care
- Current Registered Nurse License
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with OHU required levels of coverage for auto insurance.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- Ability to assess, interpret, and deliver care-related information concerning the life-span development of children and families
- Excellent written and oral communication, with ability to convey information in a clear, concise manner
- Highly organized, yet flexible and can handle multiple projects and/or priorities well with the ability to manage tight deadlines
- Proficient computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment and adaptive skills to expand software application skills as necessary
- Positive attitude concerning all aspects of working in a challenging environment (including significant patience and respect for children and families), sensitivity to cultural needs, and ability to serve as a positive member of a working team
- Resourcefulness in researching issues, analyzing information skillfully, solving problems, and developing solutions with minimal supervision in a timely manner
- Current CPR certification is required.
- Strong personnel and management skills with the ability to coach and develop team members 8. Ability to exercise discretion and ensure confidentiality.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to residential treatment programs
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
