JOB SUMMARY

As part of the Anti-Trafficking-Mobile Teams consisting of the Team Coordinator and Clinician, the AT Mentor will provide care for commercially sexually exploited (CSE) and trafficked children and young adults (up to age 24). The purpose of the Peer Mentor is to serve as the first responder to provide immediate crisis intervention and mobile direct services support once a survivor/victim is recovered. Because of the shared lived experiences of the Peer Mentor and the Victim, this first responder intervention is designed to increase the opportunity of establishing a bond with a safe, caring person who understands what the experiences of the victim/survivor. The Peer Mentor position is designed to provide mobile direct services support to the victim/survivor as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Provide on-call schedule needs 24/7 days a week to provide first responder immediate crisis and assistance based on need.
  • Works in partnership with the Team Coordinator to provide mobile direct services based on the needs identified in the victim’s individual needs assessment.
  • Work collaboratively with Team Coordinator, Clinician, Case Manager, and Anti Trafficking Directors to ensure that the needs of the victim are met.
  • Provides ongoing mobile care management services to victims and their families (if appropriate) wherever the victim is housed.
  • Verifies victim’s eligibility for services/benefits based on individual situations.
  • Accompanies victims to court hearings as needed.
  • Assist with referrals and accompany appointments as needed.
  • Provides the day-to-day care management services and works with the clinical staff to support ongoing needs.
  • Provides and ensures support for immediate health and safety such as crisis intervention; accompaniment to hospitals for medical examinations; emergency food, clothing, transportation to appointments as needed.

  • Assist with special services to assist victims with managing practical problems created by their victimization such as acting on behalf of the victim with other service providers, creditors, or employers; assisting the victim to recover property that is retained as evidence, assisting in filing for compensation benefits, and helping to apply for public assistance.
  • Complete documentation as required by funding entities, courts, referral sources.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Survivor of childhood sexual abuse/exploitation/sex trafficking with 3-5 years of recovery.
  • Graduate of high school or obtained GED.

COMPENTENCIES

  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in providing direct care and coordinated services to trauma victims specific to CSEC and CSE young adults.
  • Commitment to vulnerable individuals and families who have experienced trauma.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of child welfare issues to include trauma-informed care best practices and its implementation as well as cultural competency.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in providing direct care and coordinated services to trauma victims.
  • Ability to build effective professional working relationships internally and externally.
  • Effective oral communication skills.
  • Presents him or herself outside the agency in a manner in keeping with the firm’s core values and guiding principles.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with victim and agency information.
  • Computer and systems skills including experience with Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Availability to work flexible hours and days based on needs of the victims/survivors, ability to provide on-call services with team members for 24/7 and 365 days a year and provide crisis intervention and ongoing support of individuals identified in the region.
  • Ability to solve complex, practical problems and effectively deal with complex variables in situations where limited standardization exists.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The
employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally
required to walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

This job requires the ability to work in stressful conditions from time to time and remain focused for
extended periods of time. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds (boxes, documents, and/or equipment).
