Program Summary
The Gate City Coalition (GCC) is a program of One Step Further, Inc, (OSF) designed to provide prevention, intervention and education for the reduction of violence in the Greensboro area with particular emphasis on designated target areas. This program works collaboratively with other One Step Further programs and various agencies to ensure the identified needs and support services of individuals and families are met.
Key Responsibilities
· Establish communication and rapport with youth and families within the target areas
· Develop and implement strategies to engage youth in positive activities including sports, computers, music and art
· Develop and distribute area resource materials for youth and adults to include health, education, mental health, drug addiction, violence prevention and mediation
· Provide training for youth mediators
· Serve as a link and support for individuals through connections to community resources
· Establish and monitor biweekly mentoring programs for at risk youth focusing self-improvement and goal setting
· Meet with service providers and program directors to establish viable referral systems
· Conduct and document weekly follow up with identified high risk youth
· Work closely with Gate City Coalition staff to identify areas of potential conflict
· Assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups
· Establish relationships with schools ,recreation centers and community organizations to implement programs to support at risk youth
· Coordinate with other One Step Further programs to ensure a comprehensive approach to serving individual needs
· Provide assistance to individuals and families with court hearings and probation/parole reviews.
Qualifications
· Experience working with community organizations
· Extensive experience working with at risk youth
· Experience and/or training in crisis intervention
· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
· Knowledge of community resources and public and private agencies
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office, data collection and reporting
· Valid driver’s license and good driving record
· No pending criminal cases
Education
Associate or bachelor’s degree in human service field preferred. High school diploma or GED required
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
