What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Director position at One Voice MS?
Introduction:
With the collaboration program staff and interns, this position will help round out the team needed to take One Voice’s communications efforts to the next level. These efforts cover strategies for and production of communications, events, and fundraising activities involving all One Voice’s programs.
Objective:
To develop strategies for and oversee the production of communications and events needed to engage and expand outreach among current and potential One Voice funders, volunteers, community partners, and institute alumni.
Duties:
- Develop an annual public relations plan, including the strategies, tactics, and resources necessary to reach engagement and fundraising goals.
- Develop media relations strategy, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and online media
- Develop a social media strategy to engage One Voice audiences
- Evaluate opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising on an on-going basis.
- Develop a strategy to identify and capture specific One Voice success stories
- Provide leadership and support the design, development, implementation, and stewardship of fundraising products.
- Provide leadership, direction, and management of funder research and reporting.
- Ensure all communications are coordinated, support annual plan objectives, and are a productive expenditure of resources.
- Provide input and support to One Voice leadership in the development of joint ventures, affiliations, and partnership arrangements.
- Build, develop, and manage a public relations team, including employees and consultants.
- Oversee the development concepts, designs, and promotional plan for all One Voice events.
- Prepare presentations to explain the company’s current and future strategies.
- Coordinate marketing efforts with strategic plans and objectives.
- Manage the coordination of all One Voice events.
- Create and maintain One Voice brand/format manual for use by staff/board/volunteers
- Create and update One Voice presentation packages (PowerPoints, speaking points, handouts)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in Public relations, or marketing, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
- Proven experience developing and implementing successful PR, communications, and social media strategies.
- Experience in event planning and fundraising, especially within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to storytelling, tone, and audience engagement.
- Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in social media platforms, content creation tools, and analytics (e.g., Hootsuite, Canva, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics).
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with media outlets, funders, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Experience managing consultants, interns, or small teams.
- Ability to think strategically, creatively, and collaboratively across departments.
- Graphic design, branding, or visual communication experience is a plus.
- Passion for community advocacy, equity, and One Voice’s mission.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of cultural competency and ability to engage diverse communities with sensitivity and respect.

Pay: $64,360.00 - $75,000.00 per year
