Position Summary
Diesel Mechanic is responsible for cleaning, maintenance, visual inspection, and removal of parts and attachments of all trucks. Responsible to ensure proper manuals, report writing, disassembly, assembly, parts reuse evaluation, and reconditioning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide technical service to vehicles and equipment.
- Perform general and detailed repair of all trucks, engines and components.
- Overhaul gas or diesel engines.
- Install injectors, pistons, liners, cam shafts, cylinder heads, rod and main bearings, oil pans, clutches, fan hubs, differentials, fifth wheels, brakes, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts.
- Read job order, observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and adjust as needed.
- Lubricate moving parts and drive repaired vehicle to verify conformance to specifications.
- Tag all warranty parts and returns to warranty clerk.
- Attend training classes and keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
- Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company’s policies and practices.
- Complete suspension and under carriage overall.
- Outside Road Calls.
- Complete Cummins Software Technician.
- Rotation of work schedule, night and Weekends.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- A valid, regular Class C driver’s license
- Clean and safe DMV driving record
- Clean background check
- Bilingual (a plus).
- Computer experience (a plus).
- Ability to operate material handling equipment
- High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required
- Ability to operate a vehicle safely and in compliance with all applicable laws and company policies
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience preferred in: Diesel Engine Maintenance, Electrical System Repair, Brake Systems / Air Brakes, Computerized Diagnostics, PMI Inspection
- Welding (a plus)
- Tire repair (a plus)
- Small Tractors and agriculture experience (a plus).
- Truck experience such as Cummins, International, Detroit, Caterpila, Paccar, Mac, (a plus).
- Medium duty experience and light duty vehicles (a plus).
- Certifications and schooling (a plus).
- Ability to effectively apply analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time managing skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines
