Job Title:
Maintenance Mechanic
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic position involves a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks of a skilled nature. Unlike roles that focus on a single trade, such as Painter, Carpenter, or Plumber, incumbents in this class may specialize in a particular field but are required to work across various lines as needed. The role allows for some independence in planning and laying out work details, with occasional oversight of subordinates. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Mechanic performs duties with a focus on skilled maintenance work, requiring a thorough knowledge of building maintenance and electrician trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducting skilled maintenance work across various trades.
- Installing and repairing plumbing, steam lines, electric wiring, equipment, furniture, doors, windows, hardware, and various mechanical/electrical equipment and machinery.
- Participating in the operation and maintenance of HVAC systems.
- Conducting property inspections to identify and address repair needs.
- Estimating materials required for repairs.
- Overseeing general grounds maintenance programs.
Position Specific Performance Standards:
- Thorough knowledge of practices, processes, materials, and tools of building maintenance and electrician trades.
- Performs skilled maintenance work on plumbing, steam lines, electric wiring and equipment, furniture, doors and windows, hardware, and various mechanical/electrical equipment and machinery.
- Installs shelves, storage cabinets, and new hardware.
- Skilled in electrician work.
- Participates in the operation and maintenance of building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
- Conducts inspections of property to identify repair needs.
- Estimates materials required for repairs.
- Participates in a general grounds maintenance program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalency. Preferably a journeyman or licensed trade, but relevant experience can be substituted.
Experience:

Five plus years of experience performing skilled work in building maintenance trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and mechanical areas.

Completion of a training program in one or more skilled trades may substitute for up to two years of required experience.

We are seeking a candidate with strong technical skills, and experience in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) is highly desirable. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC systems. This skill set will be a valuable asset in ensuring the optimal functioning of our facilities.
Licensure:
- NYS Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements:
The role involves physical activities, including but not limited to lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. The ability to operate relevant tools and equipment is essential.
