Job Title:
Medical Technologist
Job Summary:
Oneida Health is currently seeking a Medical Technologist to provide as-needed coverage at the Oneida Health Center. This position is responsible for conducting chemical analyses of blood, urine, and other body fluids, as well as analyzing blood cells and preparing blood products for transfusion. The Medical Technologist ensures accurate and timely testing of patient samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, adhering to quality management system standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Determine normal and abnormal components of blood and body fluids through chemical analysis.
- Analyze blood cells using automated and microscopic techniques.
- Prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusion, including conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
- Select and issue appropriate products for transfusion.
- Ensure proper operation of analyzers and laboratory equipment by calibrating, performing preventative maintenance, and arranging for repairs as needed.
- Complete records and reports accurately for master files or databases.
- Perform all testing in accordance with standard operating procedures, manufacturer’s instructions, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle laboratory equipment and specimens.
- Visual acuity to interpret test results accurately.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology from a school approved by NYSED.
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in a hospital-based clinical laboratory (preferred).
Licensure:
- NYS Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist / Medical Technologist.
