Job Title:
Physical Therapy Assistant
Job Summary:
Oneida Health is currently seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant to work the day shift at our Extended Care Facility located in Oneida. This skilled sub-professional position involves assisting with the treatment of patients according to the plan of care documented by the physical therapist and within the parameters of the written prescription from a qualified provider. The Physical Therapy Assistant reports to the primary Physical Therapist of the patient and to the Senior Physical Therapist or Director of Physical Therapy for departmental operations. The role includes providing care and physical therapy treatments across various age groups under the direction of the physical therapist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide care and physical therapy treatments to infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics under the direction of the physical therapist.
- Prepare and maintain physical therapy treatment areas and equipment as directed by the physical therapist.
- Measure the status of patients and progress them toward goals consistent with the plan of care.
- Collaborate with other personnel in the follow-through of the patient’s total care.
- Clearly document all physical therapy treatment notes in the appropriate documentation system.
- Regularly communicate with appropriate staff regarding patient care and scheduling.
- Operate in accordance with HIPAA regulations regarding protected patient information.
- Instruct and participate in the facility’s In-service education programs.
- Supervise Physical Therapy Aides as directed by the Physical Therapist.
- Participate in continued education and evidence-based practice guidelines.
Physical Requirements:
The role involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting as necessary to perform physical therapy treatments. The ability to move and position patients is essential.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associates degree in Applied Science from an accredited institution (Required).
Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in Physical Therapy (Preferred).
- Good knowledge of anatomy and physiology, neurology, and socioeconomic factors affecting a patient’s disabilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Computer skills relevant to electronic records, charting, and auditing.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Licensed and currently registered by the NYS Education Department as a Physical Therapy Assistant (Required).
- CPR/BLS Certification (Preferred).
