POSITION SUMMARY:
This is a skilled subprofessional position involving the responsibility of assisting with the treatment to patients in accordance with the plan of care documented by the physical therapist and within the parameters of the written prescription from a qualified provider. The physical therapy assistant is responsible to the primary Physical Therapist of the particular patient and to the Senior Physical Therapist or to the Director of Physical Therapy for the operation of the department. Supervision will be exercised over the work of a Physical Therapy Aides. The Physical Therapy Assistant would assist with the needs and coverage to Oneida Health Extended Care Facility and Outpatient Services. The Physical Therapy Assistant does related work as necessary or required
POSITION SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
1. Provides care and physical therapy treatments to infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics under the direction of the physical therapist.
2. Prepares, sets up and maintains physical therapy treatment areas and equipment relative to physical therapist’s direction.
3. Able to measure patient status and progress patients toward goals consistent with plan of care.
4. Participates with other personnel in the follow through of the patient’s total care.
5. Documents in appropriate documentation system all physical therapy treatment notes.
6. Communicates regularly with appropriate staff regarding patient care, scheduling.
7. Is in accordance with HIPPA regulations regarding protected patient information.
8. Instructs and participates in the facility’s in-service education program.
9. Ability to swim.
10. Participates in continuing education, and evidence base practice guidelines.
11. CPR certified
12. Supervises the physical therapy aide as directed by the physical therapist.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associates degree in Applied Science from accredited institution.
Experience:
1. Good knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of physical therapy
2. Good knowledge of the operation and maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in physical therapy
3. Good knowledge of anatomy and physiology, neurology and socioeconomic factors affecting a patient’s disabilities
4. Working knowledge of the concepts and scope and limitations of physical therapy
5. Must have the ability to establish and maintain working relationships
6. Good communication skills
7. Must have computer skills relative to the electronic record, charting, auditing and maintenance
8. Physical condition commensurate with demands of the position
Licensure: Licensed and currently registered by the NYS Education Department as a Physical Therapy Assistant
Salary : $24 - $31
