Job Summary:
Oneida Health is actively seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to join its Hospital Respiratory Therapy Department, providing additional coverage during varied shifts. The role may involve work in our Sleep Lab and Extended Care, conveniently located within a few steps of the hospital. As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you will assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders, reporting directly to the Director of Respiratory Therapy. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, ensuring the highest levels of patient safety and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain, inspect, clean, and test respiratory equipment as needed.
- Be familiar with the technical aspects of the equipment used by the department and apply them to different situations in the clinical setting.
- Educate patients and their families about respiratory conditions, providing appropriate disease management techniques.
- Read prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition.
- Ensure respiratory care items are available and in stock, including transport oxygen tanks.
- Keep accurate and complete records.
- Serve as a resource person for Certified Therapists and other ancillary staff.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate in Respiratory Therapy (Required)
Licenses and Certifications:
- Registered or Registry eligible with The National Board for Respiratory Care (Required)
- New York RRT (Preferred)
Experience:
- 1 year of experience in Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move about the facility.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of equipment, up to a specified weight limit.
- Fine motor skills for equipment manipulation.
- Visual and auditory acuity for patient assessment and equipment monitoring.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interaction with healthcare teams.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong organizational skills for accurate record-keeping and inventory management.
