Telecommunications Mechanic/Outside Plant Lineman

We are currently seeking a Telecommunications Mechanic (Outside Plant Lineman) for a long-term contract slated to start in 2025.

The Telecommunications Outside Plant Lineman will have a Secret clearance along with the knowledge, skills, and experience to support the aerial and underground cable plant infrastructure including new installations, troubleshooting, upgrades, and maintenance to ensure telecommunications are fully operational in support of the Network Enterprise Center at U.S. Army Chemical Materials Activity (CMA-West), Pueblo, CO. The OSP Lineman performs a variety of outside cable plant tasks and responsibilities.

The Telecommunications Mechanic/Site Manager also serves a as subject matter expert, possessing in-depth knowledge of a particular area, such as network design and implementation, communications infrastructure, enterprise performance management, technology innovation and IT modernization planning.

Responsibilities:

• Perform all required communications infrastructure requests for trouble resolution, new services, or support as defined in the PWS.
• Inspect and perform routine maintenance in manholes. Assists with repair, securing, and replacement of all cable-related defects within manholes. Adheres to all OSHA requirements.
• Inspect and report deficiencies with aerial cabling, telephone poles, pedestals, handholes, and other outside plant infrastructure. Make repairs as necessary or escalates as needed.
• Install and repair aerial cabling infrastructure, lash copper and fiber cable, and remove existing cabling as directed.
• Operate bucket truck with boom lift access and maintain required aerial safety training.
• Provide design and maintenance support, which includes monitoring the security of cable runs, providing alternate routing for disaster recovery with consideration of the location of local exchange carrier facilities and the physical terrain.
• Reviews engineered drawings, statements of work, and technical manuals to determine requirements for underground, buried, and aerial cable systems.
• Prepare and install distribution equipment and terminate or splice cables as required.
• Locate, repair, and/or replace splice cases, perform troubleshooting to locate faulty splice cases and component assemblies.
• Maintain/repair/replace existing cable plant, provide fiber optic/copper cable fabrication, support and adds/moves/changes.
• Maintain network infrastructure by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.

Requirements:

• High school education or equivalent
• Five years of experience on maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of telecommunications equipment and systems
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work in underground and aerial environments daily
• Must have familiarity with OSHA safety requirements
• Experience with requisite tools and test equipment, to include Fusion Splicers.
• In depth knowledge of OSP network drawings, route maps, interpreting fiber test results, fiber optic network infrastructure, engineering design and construction, and the ability to work cross-functionally to monitor network performance.
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Position requires US citizenship
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles
• CompTIA A (or higher) certification (Security preferred)
• BICSI Installer I (or higher) certification (preferred)
• Must be able to obtain a Secret level clearance based on a favorable T3/NACLC or higher investigation..
