Student Support Assistant

OneSchool Global is seeking a dynamic and creative Student Support Assistant (Special Education Assistant) on our Portland Campus (located in Clackamas). for a student with diabetes, as well as supervision responsibilities across additional campuses. The ideal candidate will advocate for the student's wellness, assist with insulin monitoring, and ensure the student's health needs are met. Additionally, the assistant will supervise and support students in various campus settings.

Experience working with diabetic youth is an asset, but training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide individualized support to a student with diabetes, including advocacy, wellness monitoring, and assistance with insulin management.
• Supervise students across campus, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
• Collaborate with the local team to address the student's health and educational needs.
• Maintain accurate records of the student's health and progress.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Assist with other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the campus.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework in education or health-related fields preferred.
• Experience working with diabetic youth is an asset; training will be provided if necessary.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform health-related tasks, including insulin monitoring.
• Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting the student's health and educational development.
• Ability to supervise and support students in various campus settings.

Responsibilities:

• Implement instruction in various environments, based on lesson plans provided by the Student Success Leader or teacher
• Reinforce learning with individuals or small groups, catering to the diverse needs of students
• Provide personalized assistance to individual students, ensuring their academic and social success
• Support observations, data recording, and charting activities to monitor student progress effectively
• Collaborate with the team on ongoing behaviour management strategies, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment
• Prepare, produce, and maintain instructional materials under the guidance of the teacher and/or SSL, ensuring accessibility and relevance to student needs
• Assist in developing schedules to optimize learning opportunities and support student engagement
• Actively participate as a valued member of the team, contributing to collaborative planning and implementation of student support initiatives

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree
• Inclusive education experience
• Strong understanding of the IEP process and documentation
• Experience in alternative curriculum development
• Experience teaching using virtual platforms
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
