What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Safety Technician position at OneSource EHS?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Safety Technician’s responsibilities will include and are not limited to, conducting and documenting daily safety assessments, identifying hazardous environments or situations and immediately taking appropriate actions, effectively performing hazard specific training and new employee orientations. They must be physically capable of promptly responding to and investigating safety, health and environmental events that may occur. The Field Safety Technician will be capable of establishing and continuously communicating a culture of safety throughout the project. The Field Safety Technician will spend 75% of their time in the field working with the Site Supervision and Craft Labor in ensuring that the company, client and government HSE policies and procedures are continuously adhered to.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the implementation of emergency services as needed.
- Perform accident and incident investigations and reporting as directed.
- Assists in training functions such as Site-Specific Orientations and hazard recognition training.
- Provides input and makes recommendations to the Site Safety Manager.
- Ensure that federal, state, company, and site-specific policies and procedures are enforced.
- Identify and assist in the resolution of safety problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Perform monthly and quarterly inspections on tools and safety equipment.
- Responsible for performing field safety audits and assisting supervision in monitoring the corrective actions.
- Additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 years of experience in a Safety position in the Construction industry.
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification through the BCSP or equivalent preferred.
- Basic computer skills particularly Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- OSHA 510 & OSHA 500 preferred.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license.
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Ability to listen well and take in feedback from the employee perspective without passing judgement.
- Ability to recognize imminent danger and act accordingly.
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA standards.
- Superior attention to detail while in the field conducting safety assessments.
- Ability to coach and motivate others.
- Must be physically capable of spending a minimum of 75% of their time in the field observing and assisting the field crews with their daily tasks as they relate to safety and health.
- Fluent in English and Spanish preferred.
- Extensive travel required.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to communicate effectively in front of large groups.
