Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming.
- Provide patient observation to monitor clients' physical and emotional well-being.
- Support individuals in home community care settings, ensuring a comfortable and safe living environment.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and skill development.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to the dietary needs of clients.
- Offer assistance with medication management as required.
- Implement care plans designed to meet the unique needs of each individual.
- Provide direct support during hospice care when necessary, ensuring dignity and comfort for clients.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client progress and any changes in behavior or health status.
- Foster a positive relationship with clients while respecting their privacy and dignity.
Qualifications
- Experience in patient care or direct support roles is preferred.
- Knowledge of working with individuals with developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
- Skills in dementia care and first aid are beneficial for providing comprehensive support.
- Ability to perform meal preparation while considering dietary restrictions and preferences.
- Strong observational skills to effectively monitor client behavior and health changes.
- Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills are essential for building rapport with clients.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends as needed.
